SHOREHAM AIRPORT, SUSSEX
The Story of Britain's Oldest Licensed Airfield.
T.M.A. Webb and Dennis L. Bird
New Enlarged and Revised Edition!

Flying began at Shoreham only a few short years after the flight of the Wright Brothers.
Apart from the aircraft themselves, many famous aviation characters have come and gone at Shoreham, three of the most well-known being, of course, Cecil Pashley and Fred & George Miles.
This book records the history that was made at the airfield from the very early days: the first and daring escapades made by the early pioneers, the between-wars years when Shoreham became a municipal airport, the trials of the second World War, the civil developments during the fifties and the Beagle days of the sixties.
Since 1970 modernisation has continued, with the building of new facilities, including a tarmac runway, but although this historic airport continues, and has recently become more profitable, its continuing future is no more assured as, like most aerodromes, it has its fair share of opposers.
However Shoreham Airport retains a certain charisma which makes it a very special place to visit.
