In the midst of a mass of projects, one prototype was the M.71 Merchantman was first flown in August 1947. It had four 250 hp de Havilland Gipsy Queen 30 engines and a modified Marathon wing. Configuration was otherwise similar to that of the Aerovan, but the aircraft was of metal construction. This design was unable to proceed because of the firm's collapse.
